By now, I’m sure you’ve heard about the recent launch of Bing’s AI, Sydney. Whether you believe the launch was a success or not, you may be surprised to learn that there are several other players in the world of AI search. We’ve tested several of them and will happily report our findings below. Whether you want to stay up-to-date on the latest technologies, use them in your daily searches, or keep an eye on them in the stock market, we’re confident that this information will be informative.
You.com
You.com, an AI-based search engine, is taking on giants Google and Microsoft by introducing multimodal search. Founder Richard Socher says that You.com’s chat-based search can now add elements beyond text, such as code, tables, graphs, and images, to help answer questions more precisely. The addition of multimodal search is a big leap forward for You.com, according to Socher, and he believes that his company’s approach is much more effective than his competitors’ text-based search. Although he faces formidable competition, Socher believes You.com has found a way to differentiate itself from its competitors and to provide a fresh perspective on what a search engine can be. The company is still considering how to monetize and is exploring various paths, including private ads and subscriptions to different add-ons.
So, You.com now offers a chatbot on its website like ChatGPT, providing another AI-powered tool. It offers features such as the ability to save and share search results, and a chatbot on its website like ChatGPT that can respond to questions and carry on a conversation, but may still have many inaccuracies like other AI search engines. In my opinion the world of chatbot search still has a long way to go, and so does You.com. Unfortunately, I would personally not trust any information coming from a search chatbot at this point.
For example, I asked You.com chat who Timoteus Bakker is (me) and to my surprise I seem to be the founder and CEO of You.com. I guess I will need to up my game to make You.com much better.
Now, I will say I think it’s great that companies like You.com are out there providing some competition to giants like Google, Bing and GPT so definitely check them out and give them a spin. You could for example get it to generate some python for you. It may or may not be functional though..
Definitely give You.com a test drive and let us know what you think!
Neeva
Neeva.com is an ad-free and subscription-based search engine that provides summarized answers with citations integrated directly into them. It has one of the largest independent search stacks, capable of crawling millions of pages daily and is fine-tuned using innovative assessment methods to provide up-to-date and relevant results. Neeva AI is available in the US, Europe, the UK, and Canada, with versions in the native languages of Germany, France, and Spain. The company believes subscription is better than advertising for consistency and privacy and offers three different types of subscriptions. You’re basically limited to 50 searches per month if you don’t pay.
Keep in mind that Neeva is not a search chatbot like Sydney or Google Bard so at a first glance the search experience is not much different than any other search provider you are already using, but you might enjoy the AI generated summaries from Neeva more than the truncated search snippets Google provides.
Neeva VS Google with the same query: “Cucumber benefits”
In conclusion, I would personally rather stick with old school search, AI-based or not over any chatbot search if you’re looking for real answers. But one of the reasons we started this blog is to stay up-to-date and hopefully be amazed by the progress companies in this world of AI and chatbot search are making. So, stay tuned since we will be reviewing more platforms soon!
